Biogen’s CoLab is a classroom-style community laboratory where local nonprofits, teachers and Biogen employees collaborate to catalyze the potential of life science learners from marginalized communities, contributing to a more diverse and effective healthcare ecosystem in the Greater Boston and RTP areas.

Cambridge and RTP nonprofits and teachers will be able to use the Biogen CoLab space for free for programming that serves learners from marginalized communities. In 2002, Biogen founded the Community Lab, the first hands-on corporate community science lab in the United States. The Community Lab is now the longest-running program of its kind, reaching more than 64,000 students across 40 countries. Building on this success, the Biogen CoLab reimagines the Community Lab to ignite greater innovation and impact by collaboration with other organizations.
Like the Community Lab, the CoLab will offer employee-taught life science programs, but it will additionally provide life science courses taught by leading local nonprofits and teachers. This novel hybrid model will:
We are still working directly with Cambridge, Somerville, Wake County and Durham County public school systems to schedule student sessions directly with teachers. All other programming in the CoLab is currently being offered through our new collaborations and is booked through our partners.
